In this video, a Lesson from Barb’s CowSmart Course, she walks you through identifying the colors and characteristics of some of the most common breeds of cattle (and crossbreds) often seen in cattle classes. Barb also suggests the following exercise to help you consistently practice identifying typical breeds and crossbreds.
Exercise: Identify That Breed
To keep familiarizing yourself with the breeds, combinations of colors, and types of crossbreds, whenever you see a cow, take a stab at identifying it by color and breed.
Thank you for your sharing. I am worried that I lack creative ideas. It is your article that makes me full of hope. Thank you. But, I have a question, can you help me?
Can you be more specific about the content of your article? After reading it, I still have some doubts. Hope you can help me.
Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
I agree with Jackie, I too was hoping you’d do “Cow Smart” again! Just can’t learn enough and you made the course a lot of fun as well as providing information that just isn’t available anywhere else. Cattle behavior and also getting to watch runs with your commentary was so educational – just can’t get enough of it!
So glad you are going to offer “Cow Smart” again – I definitely will take it again. I need the practice on this vital and challenging skill. It is quite fascinating! I am relatively new to cutting and find it challenging to identify which cows have been worked when in a show or show-type situation. This is so different from cutting a particular cow that needs something done with it on the ranch, which seems pretty straightforward. Looking forward to the class.
